Here’s the thing, most of us have some postural issues in our upper bodies. We all drive cars, type on computers, and scroll through social media. These actions tend to leave us with shoulders that are “rolled” forward. Which is a bummer.

Forward Shoulder limits proper shoulder range of motion, which is essential for everyday movement. It also can cause some tension in the neck, which can lead to headaches.

Not to worry! Here are a couple of movements that will get you started on building some strength in proper postural position.

Handcuffs w/ Rotation: this movement can be a challenge, but that’s how you know it’s working. The trick is to really focus on retracting your shoulder blades throughout the whole movement. You can start or end a workout with this movement, take it slow and 5 rotations will feel like serious work.

Shoulder Dislocates: this is a go-to for most of my clients. By “pulling apart” the dowel you create tension and “turn on” your muscles. This is important to get you muscles working, especially in the back portion of the movement. Take these slow as well. 8 to 10 rotations before a workout will having you feeling ready to go.

These two movements will give you some relief in that nasty neck tension. Couple these with some corrective exercise in the gym and you’ll be looking at a long-term fix for Forward Shoulder.

Happy Thursday!!! It’s kettlebell Thursday in the garage and it’s our favorite 🔥🔥🔥 today’s workout was really fun but extremely brutal!! We tried stagger swings, I was inspired to try these by @mavericksfieldhouse 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 this is definitely an advanced movement, I wouldn’t recommend trying these until you’ve become proficient at traditional Russian swings. Having a staggered stance puts more emphasis on one leg at a time and requires total core engagement. These really target the Gluteus Maximus and the hamstrings unilaterally!! Very intense!!
